The scalable SIMATIC ET 200SP I/O system is a highly flexible, modular I/O system with degree of protection IP20.
Via interface modules, it can exchange IO data of the connected I/O modules with a higher-level PLC. The following interface variants are available for this purpose:

• MultiFieldbus: IM 155-6MF with the Ethernet-based protocols PROFINET, EtherNet/IP and Modbus TCP
• PROFINET: IM 155-6 PN
• PROFIBUS: IM 155-6 DP

Alternatively, as further head-end stations, various PLC, F-PLC and Open Controllers are available as compact S7-1500 Controllers (Distributed Controllers). ET 200SP components in SIPLUS version meet extreme requirements and have a high degree of robustness.

An extensive range of I/O modules, including fail-safe and Ex versions, enable the flexible connection of sensors and actuators:

• Digital input modules (DI), with color coding white
• Digital output modules (DQ), with color coding black
• Analog input modules (AI), with color coding light blue
• Analog output modules (AQ), with color coding dark blue
• Technology modules (TM), with color coding turquoise
• Communications modules (CM), with color coding light gray
• Special modules, with color coding mint green
• Motor starters as direct-on-line starters (DS) and reversing starters (RS), also as F-variant in each case

Apart from the standard type of delivery in single-unit packaging, selected I/O modules and BaseUnits are also available in a pack of 10 units. The pack of 10 units enables the amount of waste to be reduced considerably, as well as saving the time and cost of unpacking individual modules.

Expansion limits

Depending on the selected header module (interface module, S7-1500, SP-CPU, or open controller) and parameter assignment, there are different limit values which restrict the maximum configuration of an ET 200SP station.

• Up to 1 m station width (without header module/server module)
• PROFINET, EtherNet/IP and MODBUS TCP:
  • up to 64 I/O modules
  • up to 1440 bytes (depending on protocol)
• PROFIBUS:
  • up to 32 I/O modules
  • up to 244 bytes of user data including quality information
  • up to 244 bytes of parameters (this limit value only applies for configuring via a GSD file)

Mixed configuration with ET 200AL

It is possible to integrate up to 16 I/O modules of the ET 200AL (IP65/IP67) I/O system in an installation of the scalable ET 200SP (IP20) I/O system via a "BU-Send" BaseUnit and a "BA-Send" BusAdapter (only for interface modules of the Standard and High Feature function classes).

Mode of operation

Via PROFINET, EtherNet/IP, Modbus TCP or PROFIBUS, a central PLC can access the ET 200SP I/O modules in the same way as central I/O modules.

Communication is handled entirely by the controller or the master interface module (in the central PLC) and in the IM 155-6. Internal data transport takes place interference-free via shielded and self-assembling cables.

Comprehensive, channel-specific and easy-to-program diagnostics with plain text messages permit the localization and correction of plant errors in the shortest possible time and significantly increase availability.

Configuration, parameterization and diagnostics

ET 200SP is configured and parameterized

• via the TIA Portal for SIMATIC Controllers
• via the MultiFieldbus Configuration Tool (MFCT) for devices with MultiFieldbus interface (EtherNet/IP or Modbus TCP)
• with GSDML or GSD file via the configuration tool of the controller used

Extensive diagnostic information is available to the user, depending on the selected I/O module.
