Overview

A fault-free and secure connection between the individual components of an electronic system is a basic requirement for its functionality.
Conventional wiring, such as individual wiring with terminal blocks, is often costly and fault-prone. The larger the plant, the more complex the cabling becomes. Significant extra costs arise both for commissioning and later service.
Standards that simplify handling, increase clarity, and reduce costs are in demand here. Global availability must also be considered.
The solution:
SIMATIC TOP connect system cabling for SIMATIC S7
With SIMATIC TOP connect, we supply the complete connection system for SIMATIC on a worldwide basis.
You can choose between two connection concepts: the fully modular connection based on the building-block principle (new: also with universal connecting cables) or a flexible connection with bundled single cores.
Wiring of SIMATIC S7 I/O modules with the sensors/actuators is a significant factor with respect to time/cost overhead, configuring, control cabinet installation, procurement and ease of service.
With SIMATIC TOP connect system cabling, establishing a reliable connection for your SIMATIC S7 is simple and quick.
SIMATIC TOP connect is available for the following systems:
- SIMATIC S7-300, S7-400, S7-1200 and S7-1500
- SIMATIC ET 200M, ET 200MP and ET 200SP

Application

Fully modular connection is the fastest and most secure system cabling method. Sensors and actuators from the I/O are connected to the SIMATIC TOP connect terminal modules, and are easy to connect fault-free with the SIMATIC S7 via the connecting cable and front connector module. The connecting cables are available pre-assembled.
The terminal modules are not just the electrical interface between the control cabinet and the machine: In the case of the signal modules, LEDs indicate the switching status of digital signals and the presence of the 24 V DC voltage. The function modules enable adaptation to other voltage potentials required in the I/O.

Flexible connection is the optimal choice for simple wiring within the control cabinet. Up to 32 digital input and output channels are connected directly with the sensors and actuators in the control cabinet. The digital I/O modules of the SIMATIC S7 (24 V DC) can be wired in this way.
The standard front connector of the SIMATIC S7 is used. This is assembled with single cores with a cross-section of 0.5 mm2 and cut off straight at the other end. The cores can be easily assigned since they are coded in accordance with the pin designations on the front connector. This means the cores can be easily allocated to each element in the control cabinet.
The universal connecting cable constitutes the link between the standard connection of the SIMATIC S7-1200, the LOGO!, the SIMATIC ET 200SP or the SIMATIC S7-1500 I/O (25 mm) and the SIMATIC TOP connect terminal module. It transmits 8 signals and the supply voltage. The connecting cable is available in lengths of 0.5 to 2 m.
